BEAUTY BAZAAR: I knew it wasn’t going to be straightforward, asking smarty pants sister which products she wanted to test for me during her Canadian holiday. I knew that she would ask for something specific and difficult, and she did.
“What I’d really like is something that protects me from the sun and is also a self-tanner.” I mentally scanned my sun creams box. Sun protection, gradual tanners, after-sun creams with tan enhancers to beat the band, but not one product which had her required combination. My investigations were leading nowhere, until the Au Courant range landed on my desk. Its celebrity following made me want to test it out straight away, and the results are incredibly natural if you like a subtle, non-golden shade. So full marks there, but honours for their Eclipse product (€28.50), which is apparently the world’s first bronzing Sun Block SPF 20. The built-in bronzer gives colour while also protecting you from the sun. It can also be used on the face and is waterproof.

Q: I have very, very pale skin. Can you recommend any products (such as bronzers or fake tans) that will give me a natural-looking tan?
A: Are you pale with the freckled skin of a redhead, or very blonde and fair (skin type 1 or 2)? It is much more difficult for pale skins to get a good tan because your skin just is not programmed to tan easily, real or fake. That said, I have a girlfriend with fair and freckled skin who likes Au Courant Sunless Instant Tanning Spray (£24.99 for 180ml, hqhair.com)
